Art 5 & 7


In Grade 5 Art, students are continuing to work on their robot and some have even finished. They have learned the importance or working in steps, starting with basic shapes and frequently comparing their drawing to their model. Chalk pastels are messy…

In Grade 7 Art, students worked on the value scale using pencil. Once they completed the value scale and sphere, they started sketching their building. One good strategy to see values is to squint and for sketching to press lightly and start with basic shapes.

Week of Oct 21-25



Training for Excellence 8 - Hidalgo
This week students submitted and did their personal workout plan. They will be creating a sport focused plan this week. They will do a meal plan and workout that will focus on improving in the sport of their choosing.

Art Plante

Environmental and Outdoor Education Beaudoin

Friday 25th-Avalanche Canada Training sessions will take place here at school. 2 hours. Theory and practical, followed by a quiz next week in class. Also, on November 26th in the PM, Calgary climbing center. Forms to follow. Cost is 23$.  We are also doing shelters and tent setting, along with mapping our school yard.

Comm Tech/Design Studies
We are currently in transition to another project.  The grades 5-6 are finishing up their audacity changes assignment, grades 7-8 should be completing their respective frame by frame and movie clip embedding assignment, and the 9s are wrapping up keyframing.

7 Foods- Shewfelt 
This week we made pumpkin pie in a mug! The students reported that the recipe turned out great! Next week we will be switching roles within the kitchen, and cooking the same recipe again. This time, students will change, add or alter one or more components of the recipe in order to make improvements.

Shewfelt & Thorpe Fedchun Leadership

This week, students were hard at work planning and organizing the Halloween walking tour as well as the Halloween dance. Students are learning how to work with a budget and source out materials in order to put on a large school event. We are looking forward to seeing our hard work enjoyed by the students in the school next week.

Drama 5 & 7
Students have started working on some miming techniques and critiques. 

Dance 9
Students have been working on modern and ballet dance techniques.  They have been given the challenge to choreograph to a song with a 6/8 time signature.

Week of Oct 14-18

Shewfelt- Grade 7 Foods: This week students worked through planning and cooking their second recipe- Apple Crisp! Students learned the technique of peeling an apple using a proper paring knife. Students learned how to peel each quarter with a paring knife, using their thumb and peeling hand to guide the knife. Students will appraise their group's recipe and brainstorm ways their group could increase their productivity.

** Remember to bring knitting needles and yarn for those students who are interested in learning!

Shewfelt & Thorpe Fedchun- Grade 9 Leadership: Grade 9 leadership students are hard at work planning and organizing the Halloween dance, alternative activities for Halloween day, Haunted Halloween walk, and door decorating competition.

Comm Tech 5-9

In grade 5-6, we are currently working on Audacity, a sound based program.  We are looking at editing through basic commands (cut, copy paste and adding effects)  This is an exercise in control.

Training for excellence 8: Students completed weight training activities and Super 7 relays. We will modify and practice their personal workout program next week.

Week of Oct 7-10th

Drama 9 FEDCHUN- This week students worked within small groups to create skits and monologues around a given theme. ' In Every Skit'

Leadership 8 & 9 -SHEWFELT AND FEDCHUN- students are now working on Halloween Activities and getting things prepared for the school dance, haunted house, door decorating and so much more. Students who are participating in the haunted house are asked to stay after school from 2:30-4:30 on Oct 28, 29 and 30 for set up.  Grade 9 Leadership students who are not participating have started an assignment: Planning a FUNdraiser. 

Foods 7 Shewfelt- This week we started our preparation for our second recipe "Apple Crisp" We will begin cooking Wednesday next week! We will be working on "appraising" each groups recipe upon completion.

We continue to work on our landscape in ink drawings.

Fashion 8 (McMorran)
This week we did practice pages to get used to the sewing machines. We will continue next week and then, if time permits, try our hands at a simple project: making a napkin.

In outdoor Ed 8 this week we prepared for our next field trip, canoeing and kayaking Heritage Lake.  We reviewed the different parts of a canoe or a kayak and how to handle a paddle.  Our field trip wil be on Wednesday.  have a good week end.  Mr Favry

Art Grade 5 and 7 Week of Sept. 30th


In Grade 5 Art, students finished their tile project and started their robot project. Students are using fundamental drawing techniques to copy their model using basic shapes.

In Grade 7 Art, students finished their basic shapes project and have almost completed their “lose the fish” project. Students were provided with a small image (drawing) of a fish on a page and were to put the fish in a context of their choice. They will be assessed on their creativity, drawing skills and colouring skills.

Outdoor Ed 9

Stay tune for an update on a potential cancellation of the Canoe/ Kayak trip due to the cold weather.

Training for Excellence 8

This week students completed a Tabata workout with Mr. Thalheimer. This is a HIIT (High-Intensity, Interval Training) workout. Next week students will continue to learning bodyweight exercises and workout plans that they can do at home without equipment.
