Thalheimer Outdoor Ed 7 & Training 9

Outdoor Education 7
This week we had the privilege of having an Avalanche Box at the school. In the box there were Avalanche Transceivers and so both classes were outside each day playing with the transceivers hiding and searching for them on the school grounds. This upcoming week they will need to finish their Wildlife Safety Presentation and be prepared to start presenting the following week.

Training for Excellence in Sport 9
This week both classes continued to work through the Workout Log Sheet I provided them at the beginning of the term. This sheet introduces the students to a variety of different weight lifting and bodyweight exercises in order to prepare them to plan their own workout plan. This upcoming week both classes will be tasked with designing and completing their individual workout plans that each student will then follow for a short period of time afterwards.

Art 5 and 7 Feb 20th

Grade 5

Students are moving along with their Tile project and a very close to completion. They are exploring reflexion, symmetry, patterns, designs and colour schemes.

Next, in their upcoming Robot project, we will learn drawing techniques using basic shapes to copy from a model and learning how to "see" as an artist. Students will learn fundamental drawing techniques and have the opportunity to show their skills and their creativity by applying techniques taught and expand based on their interest and ideas.

Grade 7

Most students have completed the "Basic Shapes" assignments where they have learned some fundamental skills in drawing techniques. We are now moving to a one point perspective project (room or landscape) which demands skills and allows for creativity.

Art 5 and 7

We are starting a new term and have exciting projects coming up. The 1st assignment for students (formative) in both grade 5 and 7 was to show me what they can do. Students were asked to to draw a picture of their choice freehand and one following step by step instructions from a book of their choice. This will give me an idea of what they can do and how they can improve in terms of drawing skills.

Art 5 and 7 - January 31st

Art 5 and 7

As we finish this first term, I can say that it is always a true pleasure for me to teach art. Students have pushed themselves, learned new techniques and can be proud of their work even when it didn’t always turn out the way they wanted to. It is my hope that each student brings at least one piece home that they can look at with pride and know they have surpassed their own expectations of what they thought they could achieve. There are some masterpieces out there worthy to be framed and put on a wall. Great job!

Grade 5 last project: we saw some beautiful and creative watercolour bird paintings, I’ve taken some pictures for a slide show
Grade 7 last projects: we saw some creative, creepy, funny paper-maché “puppets”, this too will be part of a slide-show

Design 9

I thought I would mention to those interested, as everyone is at a different point in a variety of projects, I will be grading you on your progress.  Design is a process, and creating a product is more than skill based, its the step by step.  As such, many students without a full complement of completed assignments will be graded by observations and how effective you were with your time.

Grades have been posted.

Training for Excellence 8 - Hidalgo

This week we only had one class one training. Students did sport specific activities. Next week, students will have several different workout options to choose from.
Drama 5 & 7
