Thalheimer Outdoor Ed 7 Feb 24-28

Both classes are working on a group project on Wildlife Safety. They are creating a Google Slides Presentation. In groups of 3-4 they chose an animal that is found in Canada and are researching the animal on a variety of topics. These topics may include Habitat, Location, Range, and Safety Precautions among others. The groups will then present their project to the class.

Next week both classes will be going outside to play with an avalanche box we received this week. In the avalanche box there are Avalanche Transceivers, Shovels and Probes and we will play with them outside in the field. Make sure your child comes prepared to school with warm clothes if necessary.

Week of Feb 18-21

Comm Tech - Welcome all Computer people!  As this class is predominantly project based, there may be a week or two when there are no posts.  Most changes will be announced in class, so please ask your student for any updates.  As projects become more and more complex, there will be more and more time assigned to them.  Cheers.

Grade 5-6  We have started our keyboarding and our Paint.NET unit.  Students are expected to explore tools and the concept of layering.  We are looking to complete this assignment in another 2-3 classes.  The software is free and available here. Also, support is available from my youTube channel

Art 5 and 7 Feb 20th

Grade 5

Students are moving along with their Tile project and a very close to completion. They are exploring reflexion, symmetry, patterns, designs and colour schemes.

Next, in their upcoming Robot project, we will learn drawing techniques using basic shapes to copy from a model and learning how to "see" as an artist. Students will learn fundamental drawing techniques and have the opportunity to show their skills and their creativity by applying techniques taught and expand based on their interest and ideas.

Grade 7

Most students have completed the "Basic Shapes" assignments where they have learned some fundamental skills in drawing techniques. We are now moving to a one point perspective project (room or landscape) which demands skills and allows for creativity.

Art 5 and 7

We are starting a new term and have exciting projects coming up. The 1st assignment for students (formative) in both grade 5 and 7 was to show me what they can do. Students were asked to to draw a picture of their choice freehand and one following step by step instructions from a book of their choice. This will give me an idea of what they can do and how they can improve in terms of drawing skills.
